Eight Black-Led Groups
- 1 Vote Counts works to educate disenfranchised communities on issues that will impact their future, registers new voters, and mobilizes Pennsylvanians through grassroots lobbying, educational seminars, and advocacy.
- Democracy For All - PennFuture, which works statewide to improve access to and trust in our democracy, so communities our country has traditionally left out of decision-making processes can reclaim their power. We advocate for structural democracy reform, register and inspire people to vote, and run transformational community organizing programs.
- Philly Thrive works to unite Philadelphians around the human “Right to Breathe” and build political support against toxic fossil fuel projects, like the largest fossil fuel refinery on the East Coast. By upholding principles of environmental justice, building people power, and working in small groups called Action Circles, they defend future generations of Philadelphians against the oil and gas industry.
- POWER is an interfaith organization committed to building communities of opportunity that work for all. POWER recognizes that low-income people, communities of color, and working families of all kinds suffer the disproportionate impact of declining opportunities and dysfunctional systems. They call attention to this brokenness to advance concrete policy changes to reform these systems and to work with public and private sector leaders to invest the necessary resources to make meaningful change.
- Radical Youth Collective is a statewide Black- and Queer-led organization of young people advocating around the issues impacting youth and communities of color in the fight against systemic oppression and white supremacy of all kinds. They lead campaigns centered around racial and social justice issues, strategically educating around them and local elections.
- Sacred Seeds works to bring income-generating resources, technology, and the capacity to grow nourishing food to underserved communities in the Philadelphia area so they may thrive for generations to come. By identifying and assessing nutritional deficiencies in local communities, Sacred Seeds nourishes youth and local communities while promoting food awareness and enhancing access to clean and organic food.
- Serenity Soular is committed to making solar energy affordable for North Philadelphia households and training local residents for jobs in the green economy. In the long run, they plan to launch a worker-owned solar installation cooperative that would employ neighborhood residents to install solar options in their communities.
- Soil Generation is a coalition of gardeners, farmers, individuals, and community-based organizations in Philadelphia working to ensure people of color regain community control of land and food, to secure access to the resources necessary to determine how the land is used, address community health concerns, grow food, and improve the environment.
